After YatesburyAfter Yatesbury I was posted to RAF Feltwell in Norfolk and despite voluntering several times for overseas postings, including Christmas Island, stayed there until demob in 1957. As I was 18 when I joined the RAF and many of the AWF 72 course members where older and already qualified, changed my outlook on life and made me realise that I needed to become qualified to obtain reasonable employment. So, I started evening classes at Kings Lynn Technical College studying for HNC in Electrical Engineering. Recent Photo 2006 Civvy StreetI worked at BTH (British Tomas Huston) in Lincoln, building semiconductor testing equipment, until 1970 during which time it changed names several times before finally becoming Marconi. I continued with my studies and eventually obtained my HNC and CEng qualification. Married Mary in 1960 and Tim was born in 1963 followed by Mark in 1966. Tim married Emma and they have twin boys, Joe and Oliver ,born in 1998. Mark married Joanna and they have two chrildren, Jack born in 1996 and Bethany in 1999. The children have kept us busy over the last few years. I continued with my running, completing several half marathons and two full ones. In 2001 I had a new knee fitted (too much running) and this helped us to decide to move to a bungalow. We found a bungalow in the same village, Fiskerton, in 2003 and have just finished a total refurbishment. We are still fairly active with our hobbies including gardening, walking and cycling. Most years we take a cycling holiday in France with another couple who are long term friends. We like taking holidays, within the financial limits of the teachers pension, and have recently been to Southern Ireland. |
